Volcano River Float
Description
This half-day tour, guided by one of our expert bilingual naturalist guides, offers a slow, relaxing water ride in the jungle. We pick up in La Fortuna and surrounding areas, and the activity officially begins by departing from La Fortuna town center. Please note that if your lodging is far away from the town center, an extra fee may apply. Just 25 minutes from La Fortuna, you’ll embark on a peaceful journey down the Peñas Blancas River, where the lush tropical flora and diverse wildlife will take center stage. As we gently float along the river through its 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) right next to a giant volcano named Arenal, you’ll sit in a safe, bouncy boat while your friendly guide paddles for you, giving you the chance to spot a wide variety of animals, including sleeping sloths, funny monkeys, toucans, crocodiles, big iguanas, turtles, and beautiful tropical birds. The schedule starts at 07:30 AM with the departure from downtown. At 09:00 AM we arrive at the put-in river entry point and begin the river floating, with water and fresh fruits included on the river. We finish the river section and exit the water at 11:00 AM. At the end of the tour, we’ll welcome you into the warm and authentic kitchen of “Tita Yolanda,” where you’ll enjoy a delicious traditional Costa Rican snack: homemade tortilla, ripe plantain, fresh cheese, and freshly brewed coffee. As a special touch, we’ll also visit a rustic station in our garden for a brief and fascinating explanation of the traditional chocolate-making process and the preparation of sugarcane juice — with tasty samples of both included. At 12:50 PM is the estimated return to your lodging.
